2. TELL PRESIDENT OBAMA THAT “SMART METERS ARE NOT THE KIND OF CHANGE WE NEED“! STOP FEDERAL FUNDING FOR SMART METERS! RECALL AND BAN THEM!

Call and write the White House if you can’t participate in a protest event on October 4th. The phone number to call is 1-202-456-1111, and you can also write to the White House at http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/submit-questions-and-comments We encourage you to do both and to have everyone you know do the same!

You may wish to say, “President Obama, I oppose wireless smart meters because of serious health risks and health problems after their installation, loss of privacy, hacking , cyber security risks, fires, and increased costs. Stop encouraging their use. I would like you to help with a nationwide ban on the use of smart meters and a moratorium on the federal funding of smart meters. Many of my family and friends feel the same way. In fact, a large number of communities including counties and cities have come out against smart meters due to these problems, even to the point of criminalizing their installation. The federal government should not be encouraging or paying for such dangerous and intrusive technologies. This issue may impact my votes in November.” Add your personal reasons. Sign and provide contact info.

The Wireless Radiation Protection Coalition a newly formed national coalition seeking protection from and elimination of electromagnetic radiation hazards and cybersecurity threats- is calling for a National Day of Action October 4th Against “Smart” Meters being deployed by utility companies. A wave of demonstrations around the country will be held in the middle of ” GridWeek” a “smart” grid conference in Washington, DC – October 2-4, 2012.

The Coalition, comprised of wireless radiation safety experts, advocates individuals, and organizations, will collaborate to plan programs and events that address the adverse effects of radiofrequency/microwave radiation from a variety of sources such as Wi-Fi, cordless and cell phones, ‘smart’ meters and their grid, laptops, tablets, ereaders, baby monitors, and infrastructure antennas. We welcome other organizations and individuals to join us (see below).
The GridWeek conference in Washington DC is the ‘must-attend gathering’ for the smart grid industry and will include global electric-industry representatives, government officials and vendors at the Washington, DC Convention Center. The industry has a problem though. Public opposition to the smart grid is growing after widespread reports of privacy violations, house fires, and health effects followed smart meter installations in California and elsewhere. Now the public and elected officials want answers!
We call on anyone outraged by the various problems with smart meters to join us in front of the Convention Center and send the powerful message: “Stop Smart Meters NOW!”
We understand many of you won’t be able to travel to Washington, DC. Instead, we encourage you to participate by planning a ‘smart’ meter opposition event on October 4 in your area and location of choice. Please contact us for assistance. The more groups that participate, the more effective we’ll be.
At this point, the following organizations will demonstrate:
Organization – Location
Center for Safer Wireless – Washington, DC  Convention Center
Maryland Smart Meter Awareness – Washington, DC Convention Center
Naperville Smart Meter Awareness – Naperville, IL
Stop Smart Meters! – California
Maine Smart Meter Safety Coalition – Maine
Florida Coalition for Health Against Smart Meters – Florida
W4AR – Michigan
Spruce Creek Patriots – Florida
Wireless Education Action
We want loads of groups to join in so we can show how strong our movement is across America! If you or your local group wish to plan your own local event for Oct. 4th, start by visiting our Plan Your Own Event page, where you can find sample press releases, flyers, and other ideas for planning a successful event.
To join the coalition and/or to host an event in your area, please send an email to Evelyn Savarin at evsavarin@yahoo.com. We’ll send a sample press release for you to distribute to your local media, you can use our online press release, or you can draft your own.
Send an email to info@centerforsaferwireless.org if you plan to travel to Washington, DC.
We’ll combine our talents to let everyone know that the ‘smart’ grid is a dumb idea. Let’s work together in our field to raise awareness, make a bigger impact, and get some great press.

PRESS RELEASE

Join a Protest- Or Plan Your Own!

WASHINGTON D.C.—Citing thousands of instances of ‘smart’ meter fires, health problems, and violations of privacy laws, the National Campaign to Stop Smart Meters and Wireless Radiation Protection Coalition are calling for a National Day of Action on October 4th to demand an immediate moratorium on further “smart meter” installations and a blanket recall due to safety problems.

What are “smart” meters?  ‘Smart’ meters are digital devices that monitor utility usage and maintain continuous two-way communication between the customer’s property and the utility company.  Utilities are replacing traditional analog meters on homes and businesses all around the country as a supposed energy-saving measure, but these claims are not supported by the evidence.  In fact, according to the latest evidence the smart grid as its being developed will likely end up wasting energy, adding to pollution and putting our security at risk.  Many utilities are not permitting customers to opt out, and are even disconnecting service to those who refuse.  For those utilities permitting “opt outs” exorbitant fees are being charged.  As ratepayers and taxpayers we believe we are being forced to accept a questionable technology not in our or our family’s best interest or benefit.   On October 4th, together we say NO!

Why Oct 4th? Industry, lobbyist & government officials will be holding a ‘Smart Grid’ industry conference in Washington DC on Oct 4 – 6th called “Gridweek“  Gridweek is designed to promote continued expansion of dangerous and insecure Smart Grid technology and continued siphoning of federal taxpayer money to this debacle, which has already amounted to $3.4 billion for its current deployment nationwide.

Who are we? The Oct. 4th National Day of Action is being brought to you by the National Campaign to Stop Smart Meters, a grassroots campaign bringing together many local groups to strengthen and unify our opposition to “smart” utility meters nationwide as well as the Wireless Radiation Protection Coalition, which advocates at the U.S. national level for the public’s health, safety, privacy, freedom from surveillance, and for the environment from the many adverse effects of wireless radiation products and infrastructures. Comprised of wireless radiation safety and privacy advocates and organizations throughout the United States, the Coalition works to ensure protection from and elimination of electromagnetic radiation hazards and cybersecurity threats.

What we Believe:  We demand an immediate moratorium on further “smart meter” installations and a blanket recall due to safety problems, serious risk of fire, higher utility costs and health damage.

Your Participation is Vital to Show Nationwide Strength in Numbers!!

If you or your local group wish to plan your own local event for Oct. 4th, start by visiting our Plan Your Own Event page, where you can find sample press releases, flyers, and other ideas for planning a successful event.
