Take Action: Delay Smart Meter Installations

Attention all Californians!  You can now delay smart meter installation, but act fast as they are being deployed in your communities daily!

1. Call and write you utility company and demand to be out on the delay list. If they do not know what you mean, read from the document below.  Also, attach a copy to your written request.

Do not feel that you must tell the utilities WHY you are going on the delay list. That is not required by the CPUC, do not fall for that one. It is none of their business why, and if you answer that, be prepared to be hounded. Some people have been repeatedly called back by the utility and questioned by supervisors. They have either refused to talk with them or hung up on the utility. This does not effect your status on the delay list. It is vital to get your request to them in writing, though, to prove that you requested this. Oral conversations may not suffice for that purpose.

2. Hang a sign on your old meter stating that you are on the delay list and “DO NOT INSTALL SMART METER.”

Here are some signs from the EMF Safety Network:
Sign for Utility Meters or Smart Meter NOTICE or Do not Install Smart Meter or make your own sign!

3. Secure your existing meter with a cage or enclosure and fencing, with locked gate.  It’s very important that the meter reader can still see the face of your meter or have them make an appt. to read it. *
